Turtle LaunchTurtle Poetry Reading on July 14, 2008 at the Edina Public Library – J. Sutphen Photo

We are pleased and grateful for the opportunity to coax this first issue of Turtle out from the weeds and into the art-stream. Like the turtle who swims along peacefully one minute and walks slowly in the mud the next, the form this magazine takes will depend upon our storytellers.

Each issue will be thematic with a shared quality, which could be subject matter or as in this issue – Poetry. We are excited by different ways to tell stories and are providing a format for them. Graphic arts, short or serialized fiction, black and white photography, criticism, interviews, we are interested in all of it.

Each paper issue will be linked to a free public reading, allowing the Turtle artist to present his or her own work. Because we believe in the intersection of art and generosity we will donate a percentage of our sales to groups doing work that we admire. This year the recipient is Give us Wings, which funds community development projects in Uganda and Kenya.
